Chausson Welcome 85

Below is an independant and unbiased review of a Chausson Welcome 85

As we are a retired couple we required a motorhome in which we could spend longer than average periods in. This was the main reason that we chose the Welcome 85, and so far we are very pleased with our choice.
Starting at the front there is the new Fiat 2.3 multijet cab which is an extremely easy and comfortable vehicle to drive. Included in the specification is cab air-conditioning and cruise control. Although we expected air conditioning the cruise control was a pleasant surprise and is a welcome addition when doing long stretches of motorway driving. Moving back to the dinette area there is an extending table and with both cab seats swivelled there is seating for five. The table is well built and the extending mechanism appears to be very robust. The inboard fresh water tank is installed below the front facing belted double seat. Together with the small offside settee and table a 120x 215 double bed can be made up. Suitable for two children maybe. Above the dinnette a Heki 2 skylight provides plenty of light. There is a window on both sides, the offside window slides to open to prevent it clashing with the offside habitation door.

To the rear of the doorway is the amidships kitchen, very well thought out and has received much praise from my wife. The fridge is domestic size and has a seperate freezer on top. It comes with automatic energy selection ( AES ) and would hold enough fresh supplies for extended trips. On top of the freezer is a mini gas oven and grill combination. Although its only the size of a small microwave it works very well, and is quite adequate for the two of us. On the nearside is a circular stainless steel sink and three burner hob mounted in an L-shaped work-top. Unusually the hob has been installed in the corner, which works extremely well as it leaves the rest of the work-top as usable area.

At the rear offside is the fixed double bed, which has a firm but comfortable mattress. The dimensions of 135x195 make the bed large enough for us, neither of us are 'slim jims', and the tapered foot does not intrude.

In the nearside corner is the toilet with separate circular shower enclosure. Using the toilet is a bit cramped but only takes a short while to adjust one's stance. The shower itself is a joy to use with good water pressure and an appropriate size.

Space and water heating is taken care of by a C4002s Truma combi unit with blown air.

Other features are, 12v roof reversable roof fan. Habitation heating whilst driving and blinds and screens at all windows and the door. Many roofline lockers and underseat and bed storage ensures adequate room for all equipment. The gas locker can take two 13k propane cylinders.
The build quality is reassuring and, so far, everything works fine and we find the motorhome very easy to live with.
